Dear Blair Families,
We are almost at the end of the alphabet as we focus on the letter Yy this week! To celebrate, we’ll be adding stickers to our journals of objects starting with the letter and creating textured art by gluing colorful yarn onto plates to join our growing alphabet wall. As we continue exploring our "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" unit through the Creative Curriculum, we are diving into the heartwarming story Peter’s Chair. This tale follows a young boy named Peter who initially struggles as his father paints his old baby furniture pink for his new sister, Susie. It’s a wonderful story that perfectly illustrates the emotional side of "reusing" outgrown items while helping the children navigate feelings of change and sharing. We look forward to a week of great discussions and creative "Y" discoveries!
Family Connection
To bring this week’s lesson home, try chatting with your child about the "life cycle" of the items in your own house. You might ask if there is a toy or a piece of clothing they’ve outgrown that could be "reused" by a friend or a younger relative, just like Peter’s chair. This is a great way to turn the concept of recycling into a lesson on kindness and growth. Also, keep an eye out for the letter Y while you’re out and about—whether it’s a yellow traffic light or a yummy snack, these real-world connections help make their learning stick!

¡Estamos casi al final del alfabeto ya que esta semana nos enfocamos en la letra Yy! Para celebrar, agregaremos calcomanías a nuestros diarios con objetos que comienzan con esa letra y crearemos arte con texturas pegando hilo (yarn) de colores en platos para unirlos a nuestra pared del alfabeto que sigue creciendo. Mientras continuamos explorando nuestra unidad de Currículo Creativo "Reducir, Reutilizar, Reciclar", nos sumergiremos en la tierna historia La silla de Pedro (Peter’s Chair). Este cuento sigue a un niño llamado Pedro que inicialmente tiene dificultades cuando su padre pinta sus viejos muebles de bebé de color rosa para su nueva hermana, Susie. Es una historia maravillosa que ilustra perfectamente el lado emocional de "reutilizar" artículos que ya nos quedan pequeños, mientras ayuda a los niños a navegar los sentimientos de cambio y el acto de compartir. ¡Esperamos una semana de grandes conversaciones y descubrimientos creativos con la letra "Y"!
Conexión Familiar
Para llevar la lección de esta semana a casa, intenten platicar con su hijo o hija sobre el "ciclo de vida" de los objetos en su propio hogar. Podrían preguntarles si hay algún juguete o prenda de ropa que ya no les quede y que pueda ser "reutilizado" por un amigo o un pariente más pequeño, tal como la silla de Pedro. Esta es una excelente manera de convertir el concepto del reciclaje en una lección sobre la amabilidad y el crecimiento. Además, mantengan la vista atenta para encontrar la letra Y mientras están fuera de casa; ya sea en un semáforo amarillo o en una merienda sabrosa (yummy), ¡estas conexiones del mundo real ayudan a que su aprendizaje sea más significativo!
